1. What is the difference between my Primary Doctor and a Psychiatrist?

 

                

The main difference between a primary doctor and psychiatrist is that the psychiatrists is a specialist who deals with illnesses that affect the human brain.

 

Both these positions are professionals with a basic degree in medicine (MD); of primary doctor typically is a family practice doctor, an internist or a pediatrician. Each of whom has a residency lasting approximately 3 years.

 

A psychiatrist, is a professional who after completing his degree in medicine (MD) go through one year of internship with rotations and either internal medicine or family practice or pediatrics, as well as 6 to 9 months of training in neurology. At the end of this training. The psychiatrists has three years of specialized residency training and illnesses and conditions that affect the human brain.
